About & methodology

Instagram Reel Safe Zone exists to answer one practical question: “Will this text, logo, face, or CTA still be visible when the Reel is viewed somewhere other than my editor?”

Method checked July 30, 2026

What the checker does

The homepage places an image, video, or built-in demo inside a 9:16 frame and draws named reference overlays above it. You can compare a conservative Reel interface, a lighter interface, a centered 3:4 profile-grid cover, and a centered 4:5 feed preview. A draggable text probe checks whether its full rectangle remains inside the selected safer area.

Why there is more than one view

Search results and current creator tools publish materially different Reel margins. That is expected: the username, caption, engagement rail, audio label, ad CTA, screen proportion, account experiment, and app version can all change what appears over a creative. A crop ratio also answers a different question from an interface overlay.

We therefore name each view, state its coordinates, show a verification date, and use a conservative default. The tool does not describe any one rectangle as an official or permanent Instagram specification.

Reference coordinates

  • Conservative Reel UI: left 60 px, top 250 px, right edge 900 px, bottom edge 1470 px.
  • Lighter Reel UI: left 50 px, top 200 px, right edge 930 px, bottom edge 1670 px.
  • Profile grid: centered 1080 × 1440 (3:4) crop inside 1080 × 1920.
  • Feed preview: centered 1080 × 1350 (4:5) crop inside 1080 × 1920.

These are preflight references. A final draft review in the current Instagram app is still the best check for a high-stakes post or ad.

How updates are evaluated

A useful change report includes the device, operating system, Instagram app version, account or placement type, the surface being viewed, and a screenshot with private content removed. One isolated screenshot can reveal a scenario; repeated evidence is needed before changing a default used by everyone.

The public verification date changes only after the reference views have been rechecked. Old measurements remain documented in repository history so a future update can be reviewed rather than guessed.

Privacy architecture

The checker has no media upload endpoint. The browser creates a temporary object URL for the selected file and uses HTML media and Canvas APIs to preview and export it. File bytes, filenames, typed test copy, media dimensions, and duration are excluded from analytics. See the Privacy Policy for the separate GA4 disclosure.
